Accomplishments
Since I was elected to the GGUSD Board of Education in 2002, the District has
Won national Broad Prize for Urban Education three years in a row and finally the top prize of $500,000 for scholarship in 2004.
Increased number of schools being recognized statewide and nationwide for academic achievement
Increased test scores every year, especially among low income or English learners.
Doubled pre-school program to serve all low-income preschoolers
Increased preparation for college education, offered more college level courses
Increased after school programs targeting low-income or struggling students
Expanded Vietnamese Foreign Language program
Hired more best qualified teachers and administrators with understanding of students’ culture or language.
Increased parental involvement, dedicated staff to work fulltime with parents.
Increased communication and partnership with community, expanded advisory groups to exchange ideas with community
Increased public access to board meetings, posted board meetings’ audio recording on the web site
Increased data analysis to track student academic performance
Expanded wireless technology to allow more use of the Internet or computer in class rooms
Expanded use of technology to serve class rooms and business services
