Accomplishments

 

Since I was elected to the GGUSD Board of Education in 2002, the District has

  • Won national Broad Prize for Urban Education three years in a row and finally the top prize of $500,000 for scholarship in 2004.
  • Increased number of schools being recognized statewide and nationwide for academic achievement
  • Increased test scores every year, especially among low income or English learners.
  • Doubled pre-school program to serve all low-income preschoolers
  • Increased preparation for college education, offered more college level courses
  • Increased after school programs targeting low-income or struggling students
  • Expanded Vietnamese Foreign Language program
  • Hired more best qualified teachers and administrators with understanding of students’ culture or language.
  • Increased parental involvement, dedicated staff to work fulltime with parents.
  • Increased communication and partnership with community, expanded advisory groups to exchange ideas with community
  • Increased public access to board meetings, posted board meetings’ audio recording on the web site
  • Increased data analysis to track student academic performance
  • Expanded wireless technology to allow more use of the Internet or computer in class rooms
  • Expanded use of technology to serve class rooms and business services
