VOLUNTEERS ALWAYS NEEDED
The Campaign would like to
ask for volunteers for the following tasks:
1. Volunteers for the Phone Bank. We need volunteers to
call registered voters in the District to remind them to vote or ask them if we
can help them in any way. You can call from the Campaign Office or from your
own home. You can select your own hours
or days of week, but it must be before
the Election Date on November 2. We’ll provide all necessary instructions,
phone scripts, list of voters’ names and
their phone numbers. You can use either English, Spanish or Vietnamese. You can
ask a group of friends to get together at someone’s house to make the calls
from there. It’s important that we reach out to the voters to see if they need
any help or listen to their concerns about this election.
2. Volunteers to walk the precincts. We would like to ask volunteers to walk
around certain streets or neighborhoods within the District to meet the
residents, introduce the Candidate Lan Nguyen to them, pass out campaign
literature, ask them about their concerns for the election or any thing that we
can do to help them for this election. You can pick your own times or your own
routes to walk, but the best time to meet residents is usually in the
afternoons after work time. Like working on the phone bank, we need to reach
out to the resident voters to encourage them to vote and to hear what they have
to say about the election.
3. Volunteers to work at the Campaign Office. We also need volunteers to work in the
office, answer the phones, help in administrative tasks, enter data into the
computers, or anything else that is needed for the campaign. You can also pick your own time schedule or
coordinate with other volunteers at the office.
4. All others can also help. If you have relatives, friends or know
someone who lives in within the boundary of the District, you can contact those
people and ask them to do any of the following: (1) remember to vote on the
Election Day, (2) ask their family members and neighbors to vote also, (3)
allow the campaign to post the campaign signs on their lawns, (4) introduce the
candidate Lan Nguyen to their neighbors around their home, or (5) ask them to
make a donation to the campaign if possible.
Campaigning for this position
is not easy as it seems. We need to reach out to almost 120,000 voters and
raise at least $50,000 to pay for the basis costs of the campaign. Each mailer that we send out to the voters
costs from $15,000 to $20,000, and we must send out at least three of those
mailers just to get enough attention.
The rest of the campaign depends a lot on manual work such as working on
the phone bank or walking the precincts.
For all of us volunteers,
this is a good opportunity to learn about
how a political campaign works or
how each of us can provide input in each candidate. Least of all, we
should take concrete action to show support for our favorite candidate,
something we can be proud of later on if that candidate does well in the
election and later on in his or her political carrier. Saying “I support that
candidate” alone is not enough to get him elected. Hope to have you volunteer
to work in this exciting campaign.
